Places to explore in CumbriaEngland · North West England

Cumbria is mountain country. The glacier-carved fells and ribbon lakes of the Lake District lie at its heart, with England's highest ground on Scafell Pike and its deepest and longest waters in Wastwater and Windermere. Volcanic rock in the central fells gives way to limestone in the east and the red sandstone of the Eden Valley. Wordsworth's Grasmere, the stone circle at Castlerigg and Hadrian's Wall along the northern edge are all within reach.
