In Threlkeld, directly below the whaleback bulk of Blencathra, the Horse and Farrier Inn dates from the 17th century and has long fed walkers coming off the fell. It’s a well-known dining stop on the old road between Keswick and Penrith, with rooms and food a cut above standard bar fare. Blencathra’s Sharp Edge starts more or less from the door.
