Threlkeld sits below the great southern face of Blencathra, one of the best-looking fells in the district and a favourite for the ascent by Hall’s Fell ridge. The old granite quarry on the edge of the village is now a mining museum, with a length of narrow-gauge railway. There are two inns, including the Horse and Farrier, and Keswick is about four miles west.
