Ruskin reckoned the view from Friar’s Crag was one of the finest in Europe, and it’s still a gorgeous spot: a pine-topped little headland poking into Derwentwater, looking down the lake into the wooded jaws of Borrowdale. Best of all it’s an easy, more or less flat walk of about fifteen minutes from the Keswick lakeshore, so almost anyone can get there. Handy if you’re staying in Keswick and want a quick leg-stretch.
