A walkers’ village at the foot of the Whinlatter Pass, Braithwaite sits right below the Coledale horseshoe and makes a fine start for a day on Grisedale Pike. Whinlatter Forest climbs the hillside to the west, and the Newlands fells rise to the south. The cosy Coledale Inn is a good spot to finish a round.
