Allium occupies Askham Hall, a fortified manor held by the same family since 1724, where head chef Richard Swale cooks close to the source using the estate’s kitchen gardens and home-reared produce. Flag floors, deep sofas and family antiques keep it comfortably lived-in. Combine dinner with the ruins and grounds of nearby Lowther Castle, or a climb of Heughscar Hill above Ullswater.
