Pooley Bridge stands at the foot of Ullswater, where the lake empties into the River Eamont. Its old stone bridge was swept away by Storm Desmond in 2015 and replaced by a graceful stainless-steel arch, opened in 2020. The village is the northern base for the Ullswater ‘Steamers’, which sail up to Glenridding. Penrith is about four miles away.
