A 17th-century inn on the sloping green at Askham, the Queen’s Head is a smart Eden-valley dining pub with rooms. It’s an easy walk from Lowther Castle & Gardens and well placed for the quiet fells above Ullswater. Askham is among the prettier villages hereabouts, with two greens and rows of stone cottages. Penrith station is about 6km north.
