Rheged is an arts and events centre just off the A66 near Penrith, built into a hillside and covered over with grass so it more or less disappears into the fields. Inside there are changing exhibitions, a cinema, shops and cafés leaning on local food and makers. Entry is free, there’s plenty of parking, and it’s a genuinely useful wet-weather stop or a break on the drive into the Lakes.
