The Toffee Shop in Penrith has been making fudge and toffee to a guarded recipe since 1910, and it has a genuinely devoted following — plenty of people time a Penrith stop around it, and mail order goes out across the country. It’s a small, plain shop rather than any kind of visitor centre; the point is the fudge, which is superb. A few minutes’ walk from the station.
