Down off the Langdale Pikes and after a big feed? Wainwrights’ Inn at Chapel Stile is built for it - a busy walkers’ pub with log fires, generous plates and local ales at the mouth of Great Langdale. Boots and dogs are welcome, and it can be packed on a wet afternoon when the fells empty out. Windermere is the nearest station, via the Langdale bus.
