Skelwith Force isn’t tall, but it shifts a lot of water — the Brathay funnels through a rocky gap at Skelwith Bridge and drops in a short, forceful rush. It’s a near-level walk of a few minutes from the bridge, where there’s a café and a slate workshop by the car park, and a viewing spot gets you close to the noise. Worth timing for high water, when it’s genuinely powerful, and it makes an easy add-on to a stroll round Elter Water. Windermere station is about 9km off.
