Cathedral Cave is the main chamber of the old slate quarries above Little Langdale, a tall space around 40 feet high with a natural rock pillar holding up the roof and a window of daylight dropping in from above. You reach it along the old quarry tracks and then through a short, low tunnel, so bring a torch and decent footwear. It’s a favourite short adventure off the walk between Little Langdale and Tilberthwaite, but it’s a disused working — the rock underfoot stays wet, so watch your footing, keep out of any roped-off areas and look out for loose rock. Windermere is the nearest station, about 11km east.
