Chapel Stile is the main village in Great Langdale, a tight cluster of slate cottages below Holy Trinity church with the Langdale Pikes rising straight ahead. There’s a well-stocked village store and a couple of pubs, which makes it a natural staging post for walkers heading up onto the fells. Elterwater is just down the valley to the south-east.
