Dramatic glacial valley beneath the Pikes.
If you’re after the classic Lakeland walking day, Great Langdale is where a lot of people begin. The valley runs in beneath the Langdale Pikes, a wall of craggy fells that has drawn walkers and climbers for generations, with the two Dungeon Ghyll pubs waiting at the head of it. It’s open access, and the National Trust car parks fill early on fine weekends. The Old Dungeon Ghyll is the historic climbers’ haunt.
