Starting up Stickle Ghyll to the Langdale Pikes? The New Dungeon Ghyll sits right at the foot of the path, a Victorian walkers’ hotel and bar built in 1862 in Great Langdale. The terrace has full-on fell views and the bar does hearty food for boots-on visitors. It’s a long way from the railway - Windermere is the nearest, best reached by the Langdale bus.
