The Three Shires takes its name from the old meeting point of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire up at Wrynose nearby. It’s a slate-built inn deep in Little Langdale, a walkers’ base for the Langdale and Coniston fells with rooms, a garden and food. Quiet and a long way from anywhere - the drive in over the passes is part of the appeal. Windermere is the nearest station.
