At the mouth of Langdale, Skelwith Bridge is a small hamlet where the River Brathay drops over Skelwith Force, a broad, low waterfall a few minutes’ walk from the road. There’s a green-slate works and a popular riverside cafe here, and the falls make an easy leg on the walk between Ambleside and Elterwater. Windermere station is about 8km to the south-east.
