Tom Gill is the pretty way up to Tarn Hows — a string of cascades running down the wooded glen from the tarn towards Yew Tree Tarn on the Coniston road. It’s a lovely short family walk of half a mile or so up beside the falls, on a clear path with a few steps, and you can loop round Tarn Hows at the top for the views. There’s a small car park at the bottom by the A593. A cracking little outing on a fine day.
