Hawkshead Methodist Church is a modest chapel just off the village square, and it’s said to be one of the oldest buildings anywhere still used for Methodist worship. Don’t expect grandeur — it’s a plain, low-ceilinged room, which is much of its appeal. Free to visit when open. The village of Hawkshead is worth a wander in its own right, with the whitewashed St Michael’s church on the hill above.
