Dove Cottage
Local highlightWordsworth's cottage home and museum.
William and Dorothy Wordsworth moved into Dove Cottage in Grasmere in 1799, and the eight years he spent in this cramped, low-ceilinged house were his most productive as a poet. It’s kept as a writer’s house, with a museum alongside holding manuscripts and portraits. Paid admission, and the guided look round the rooms is what makes the visit. Rydal Mount, his later and grander home, is a few miles up the road.
