Wordsworth's village, gingerbread and Dove Cottage.
Wordsworth called this the loveliest spot that man hath ever found, and Grasmere still trades on him: Dove Cottage, where he lived from 1799, and the family graves in St Oswald’s churchyard draw a steady stream of visitors. By the church gate, the tiny shop has been making Grasmere gingerbread to Sarah Nelson’s Victorian recipe since the 1850s — worth the queue. His later home at Rydal is a couple of miles down the road.
