Boot is a stone hamlet in Eskdale, reached at the far end by the Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow-gauge railway, whose Dalegarth terminus is a short walk down the lane. There’s a restored 16th-century corn mill, Eskdale Mill, and a fine walk up to the waterfall in Stanley Ghyll. Two good inns, the Brook House and the Woolpack, keep walkers fed.
