Santon Bridge is a small village on the River Irt, on one of the back roads into Wasdale. Its claim to fame is the World’s Biggest Liar competition, held each November at the Bridge Inn, where contestants tell the tallest tale they can — the event honours Will Ritson, a 19th-century Wasdale landlord famed for his whoppers. Ravenglass and its coast railway are a few miles south-west.
