Narrow-gauge steam line into wild Eskdale.
Known to everyone as La’al Ratty, this narrow-gauge line runs little steam engines the seven miles from the coast at Ravenglass up into Eskdale, ending at Dalegarth near Boot. At just 15 inches between the rails it’s one of the smallest passenger railways going, and the trip up the valley is a treat. Trains run most days from spring to autumn and more sparsely in winter, so check the timetable before you go. The mainline station at Ravenglass is right alongside.
