Muncaster Castle looks out over the River Esk about a mile east of Ravenglass, and the Pennington family have lived here for some 800 years. The grounds are famous for their rhododendrons, with woodland walks and long terrace views up the valley to the fells. There’s a hawk and owl centre too, with daily flying displays. Ravenglass station is roughly a mile off. The castle, gardens and hawk centre open through spring, summer and autumn, with an admission charge.
