Gosforth is a west-coast village best known for the Gosforth Cross in its churchyard — a tall, slender sandstone cross carved around the 10th century, mixing Christian scenes with Norse pagan imagery. The village is a common approach to Wasdale from the coast. The Gosforth Hall Inn makes a comfortable base, and Seascale station is about three miles down towards the sea.
