The Woolpack Inn stands on the old packhorse road up Eskdale at Boot, the last pub before the steep haul over Hardknott Pass. It’s a lively walkers’ bar with its own micro-brewery, rooms, and a relaxed, mildly eccentric feel. Good for a night either side of the passes, or as a base for the quiet fells around Eskdale. Ravenglass, on the coast, is the nearest mainline station.
