Beatrix Potter drew the Tower Bank Arms into The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck, and it still stands much as she saw it, beside her Hill Top farmhouse in Near Sawrey. Now owned by the National Trust, this small 17th-century inn keeps local ales and does food - a natural pairing with a visit to Hill Top. Windermere is the nearest station, about 5km away via the ferry.
