Blackwell is an Arts and Crafts house above Windermere near Bowness, designed by M.H. Baillie Scott around 1900 and kept much as he intended inside — panelled rooms, deep inglenooks and a white drawing room looking out over the lake. Terraced lawns run down towards the water. It’s open to visitors with paid admission, so check current opening before a special trip. Windermere station is about 4km to the north.
