Winster gives its name to a quiet valley of white farmhouses and damson orchards between Bowness and the Lyth. There’s little to it beyond a scatter of homes, a small church and the lanes themselves — which is rather the appeal, as this is gorgeous, unhurried walking country. Bowland Bridge sits further down the same valley, handy for a pub lunch.
