The Lyth Valley Damson Company makes damson cheese — a thick, sliceable fruit paste — along with jams and gins by hand, all from the damsons that grow through the Lyth Valley near Crosthwaite. The valley turns white with damson blossom in April and its dark fruit is picked in late summer. It’s a small local producer rather than a shop to visit, so the preserves turn up in farm shops and delis around south Cumbria.
