St Andrew’s sits in the middle of Dent, the cobbled village deep in Dentdale. It goes back to the 12th century, though it was much rebuilt over the years, and the standout detail is the chancel floor, laid in a black-and-white chequer of polished local Dent marble. There are 17th-century box pews too. Open daily. Dent’s own station, up on the Settle–Carlisle line, is famously the highest mainline station in England but a good four miles’ climb from the village.
