Cautley Spout is England’s highest cascade above ground, a thin ribbon of water tumbling around 180 metres down the crags of the Howgill Fells north of Sedbergh. A clear path leads in from the Cross Keys inn across the beck; the lower falls make an easy walk, but climbing alongside the full cascade is steep and rocky underfoot. There are no facilities out here, so carry what you need. Garsdale station is about 12km away to the south-east.
