Hampsfell Hospice is a squat stone shelter built in 1846 on the limestone tops above Grange-over-Sands, with steps up the outside to a flat roof and a fine sweep of view from the Langdale fells round to Morecambe Bay. A local vicar put it up as a refuge for walkers crossing the fell. It’s open access and free, reached by a steady climb from the town — the limestone gets slippery when wet.
