If you’re after a serious meal on the southern edge of the Lakes, Heft is the name people point you towards. This High Newton gastropub, just up the road from Cartmel, cooks local and seasonal and has built a strong reputation for it. Grange-over-Sands station is about 5km south. Book ahead, and don’t come expecting a casual drink-in local.
