Newby Bridge is a low, five-arched stone bridge over the River Leven, close to where Windermere spills out at its southern end. It’s thought to date from the 17th century, and takes its name from the hamlet that grew up around the crossing. You can view it freely from the bank or the riverside hotel alongside; it still carries road traffic, so mind the cars. See also Newby Bridge village just up the road.
