Priory village of racecourse and sticky-toffee fame.
Open accessNational Trust land — free to wander
Cartmel gathers around its great Priory church, founded about 1190 and still the parish church, with a small national-hunt racecourse on the meadows alongside. The village shop has sold its famous sticky toffee pudding since 1984 and now ships it across the country, while Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume has drawn food pilgrims here since 2002 — three Michelin stars as of 2022. Cark station is under 3km to the south-west.
