Silloth is a Victorian resort laid out on a broad grid beside the Solway Firth, built when the railway arrived in the 1850s. Its cobbled streets run down to a huge grassy green above the shore, looking across the firth to the hills of Dumfriesshire. The old docks still handle grain, and there’s a long sandy shore and the Silloth on Solway links golf course along the front.
