Kirkbean Parish Church is a neat Solway kirk with a distinctive domed tower, best known for its link to John Paul Jones — the founder of the US Navy, born on the nearby Arbigland estate in 1747. A memorial font inside, carved with his ship the Bonhomme Richard, remembers him. The church stands below Criffel, near the coast south of Dumfries.
