Just a single row of houses facing the water, Carsethorn was once a busy little Solway port and now makes a gorgeous, quiet stop on the coast south of Dumfries. The old harbour is still there, and there are long views across the firth to the bulk of Criffel. Good beach walking at low tide toward the mouth of the Nith.
