A squat, whitewashed tower on the Solway shore at Southerness, put up in 1749 and reckoned among the oldest lighthouses in Scotland. It’s long out of use as a working light but stands as a well-kept landmark over the sands. You can wander right up to it and along the shore; the tower interior isn’t open, but the exterior’s viewable year-round.
