Silloth grew as a Victorian railway resort on the Solway Firth, and its broad green is the heart of it — a big open sward laid out above the shore, backed by cobbled streets of solid Victorian houses. Look across the water and you’ll see the hills of Dumfriesshire on the far side. It’s a breezy, bracing spot for a stroll, with the beach and promenade just below. The town of Silloth has cafés and shops around the green.
