A National Trust garden just north of Temple Sowerby, Acorn Bank is best known for its walled herb garden — more than 250 medicinal and culinary plants, one of the largest collections of its kind. Beyond it lie old orchards of traditional fruit, and a path down through the wood to a watermill on the beck, partly restored and occasionally milling. Worth checking opening times before you go.
