Quiggin’s is the oldest surviving maker of Kendal Mint Cake, having produced the sugary peppermint slab in Kendal since the 1880s. It’s the classic hillwalkers’ energy hit — a sweet block of glucose and mint that has fuelled generations up the fells. This is a producer rather than a shop to visit, so you’ll find the bars in shops around the town and across the Lakes. Romney’s is the other big Kendal name.
