Holehird is a ten-acre garden run by the Lakeland Horticultural Society on the hillside above Windermere, kept largely by volunteers. It holds a national collection of astilbes and makes the most of its slope, with rock beds, a walled garden and long views across the lake. Entry is free, with donations invited towards upkeep. Windermere station is a couple of kilometres off — a steepish walk, or a short drive.
