Brockhole sits on the shore of Windermere between Ambleside and Bowness, with Thomas Mawson’s terraced gardens stepping down to the lake. Entry to the grounds is free, though there’s a charge to park. Worth knowing before you go: the visitor centre and café here closed for good in 2025, but the gardens and lakeshore remain open to walk. A relaxed spot for an afternoon by the water.
