St Andrew’s is a surprisingly big church for such a small village, refounded as a collegiate church in 1382 to house a master, chaplains and chantry priests. The east window still holds fragments of 16th-century glass telling the story of the apostles Andrew and Matthias. It stands near Penrith, a good pause if you’re heading that way.
