Hutton-in-the-Forest is a grand old house near Skelton, in what was once the Forest of Inglewood, grown up around a surviving medieval pele tower. The walled garden dates from the 1730s, with 17th-century terraces below the house, a dovecote of the same era and an arboretum of some seventy kinds of tree. Home to the Inglewood family; paid entry and seasonal, so check before you travel.
