Kirkoswald is a sandstone village above the River Eden, with cobbled streets and the remains of a medieval college of priests. Its curiosity is St Oswald’s church, whose bell-tower stands separately on a hill above, detached from the church below. The odd riverside chambers known as Lacy’s Caves are a short walk off. Lazonby & Kirkoswald station is under two miles away, near Lazonby.
